Electric Boat Awarded Massive Submarine Contract

The Department of War has awarded General Dynamics Electric Boat a 14-submarine building contract worth $76.6 billion. Baird Maritime reported that the investment is the largest shipbuilding contract in modern history. The primary work will be undertaken in Groton, Connecticut and will help create thousands of jobs in the area through 2029.

“We must continue expanding the successful workforce training programs that have rejuvenated southern New England’s manufacturing sector so they can skill-up more students and jobseekers for long-term submarine careers,” Rep. Joe Courtney (D-Conn.) said in a press release.

ADC reported on the link between Southeastern Connecticut’s shipbuilding industry and workforce development programs in a recent episode of its Homefront series.
