White House Nominates for Several Posts but Still No Secretary

March 27, 2019

The White House formally nominated Army Vice Chief of Staff Gen. James McConville this week to be Army chief of staff. President Trump wants to nominate the current chief of staff, Mark Milley, to chair the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Trump nominated Lt. Gen. David Berger to become the new Marine Corps commandant. He currently leads the Marine Corps Combat Development Command in Quantico, Va.
Trump nominated Air Force Gen. John Raymond to head the U.S. Space Command. He would also keep his current position running Air Force Space Command.
The nomination Congress is waiting for is secretary of defense.
“I would like to see that nomination come from the White House soon,” Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) said Tuesday.
Acting Secretary Patrick Shanahan is interested in the job but is under scrutiny for his ties to Boeing, as On Base has reported.
