House Environmental Coalition Pushes Sustainability Programs for NDAA

April 25, 2024

A House Democratic coalition for energy and environment security wants to ensure the fiscal year 2025 National Defense Authorization Act includes policies “that support military installation resilience, fortify energy resilience and protect the health and safety of our military personnel,” according to an April 18 letter signed by eight Democratic members of the Sustainable Energy & Environment Coalition.

Among the signers were Armed Services Committee members Andy Kim (D-N.J.), Salud Carbajal (D-Calif.) and Marilyn Strickland (D-Wash.).

“Investing in climate resilience for our military is the smart thing to do; it will reduce emissions, make our country safer, protect our brave servicemembers and save taxpayers’ money,” group co-chair Rep. Katie Porter (D-Calif.) said in a coalition press release.
