Biden Says National Guard Should Not Intervene in Campus Protests

May 6, 2024

President Biden told reporters last week that “order must prevail” when protests become violent, as some pro-Palestinian demonstrations have on college campuses across the country, as CBS News reported.

“I will always defend free speech,” Biden said Thursday, according to a White House transcript. “And I will always be just as strong in standing up for the rule of law.”

But when a reporter asked if the National Guard should intervene, Biden said “no.”

He also said the protests will not change the United States’ position on the war in Gaza.
