Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) suggested Wednesday that the Defense Community Infrastructure Program is one way to help solve the housing crunch in many military communities.
The program, which Congress made permanent last year, provides grants for infrastructure projects, “investing in the communities in a way that benefits the military,” Warren said at a hearing of the Armed Services Personnel Subcommittee, which she chairs.
“I want to build on the success of DCIP,” Warren said. “I want to work with [ranking Republican Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.)] and other members of this committee to see if we can’t get more [housing] help through the DCIP program.”
Warren and Ashish Vazirani, performing duties of the under secretary of defense for personnel and readiness, were discussing how a housing shortage is among the biggest concerns of service members and their families.
