Space Force Wants Personnel from Other Services

January 13, 2020

DOD leaders working on a Space Force organizational chart want to include Army, Navy and Marine Corps personnel and are developing a legislative proposal to allow the integration, Breaking Defense reported. There are space-related activities in the Army and Navy that are barred from being moved into the Space Force under the defense policy bill that created the new branch.
Maj. Gen. John Shaw, head of Space Force Space Operations Command, said recently that the new force is focused on the long view.
“I’ve been telling the team, ‘Don’t even think about a warfighting service for the next decade or even this century; create a warfighting service for the 22nd century,’” Shaw said. “What [does] warfighting look like at the end of this century, and into the next? We’ve started with that.”
Space Force owes Congress an organizational plan Feb. 1.
