The National Guard Association has been critical of an Air Force plan to move about 600 Guard personnel in six states and Washington, D.C. into the Space Force, as On Base reported.
Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall defended the plan to lawmakers Wednesday, saying it “should be very straightforward.”
House Armed Services Committee Chair Mike Rogers agreed, telling Breaking Defense that he thinks “what the Air Force is suggesting is going to be successful.”
The proposal would require Congress to approve a one-time override of existing law that mandates a governor’s signoff for any changes to that state’s Guard structure.
