President Biden on Tuesday nominated Derek Chollet to become undersecretary of defense for policy, as Defense News reported.
Chollet currently works at the State Department. He previously served as assistant secretary of defense for international security affairs and as executive vice president of the German Marshall Fund.
Chollet would replace Colin Kahl, who left the job to return to Stanford to teach.
But Chollet joins a growing list of DOD nominees whose confirmations are being blocked by Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) in protest over the Pentagon’s abortion access policy. Tuberville said Tuesday he will not release the holds before the Senate leaves this week for its August break, according to The Hill.
“No, I’m not going to change my mind,” Tuberville said.
