Navy Sending Support for Gaza Aid Initiative

March 21, 2024

The Navy is sending three cargo ships and about 260 sailors to support the Army-led effort to build a floating pier off Gaza to deliver humanitarian aid to Palestinians, Navy Times reported.

The sailors are from Naval Beach Group 1, based in San Diego. The Army’s 7th Transportation Brigade from Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia is leading the mission. Those two units built a similar structure during a 2023 joint exercise with Australia.

“This is a routine mission for us, and we’re just falling in together in step to conduct this mission,” one Navy official said.

DOD stressed again that no U.S. troops will be on the ground in Gaza.
