President Joe Biden plans to nominate Christine Wormuth to become the secretary of the Army, the White House said Monday. If she is confirmed, she would be the first woman to hold that position.

Wormuth was under secretary of defense for policy in the Obama administration and is currently director of the International Security and Defense Policy Center at the RAND Corporation.

Biden also announced the nomination of former Congressman Gil Cisneros as undersecretary of defense for personnel and readiness, saying he “is committed to building a diverse military and removing extremism from our ranks.”

Susanna Blume, the acting director of cost assessment and program evaluation at DOD, will be nominated to the position long-term, the announcement said.
