Americans and allied troops who lost their lives on D-Day “died for something. They died for that order to be put in place so that we would have a better peace,” Joint Chiefs of Staff Chair Gen. Mark Milley said Monday at the American Cemetery overlooking the shore at Colleville-sur-Mer in France, AP reported.
He said that’s why the U.S., “the nations of Europe, the nations of NATO, are supporting Ukraine with lethal and nonlethal support in order to make sure that that rule set is underwritten and supported.”
Milley took part in D-Day commemorations along with veterans from the U.S. and other countries, who are now in their 90s. He is on a 10-day trip to meet with military leaders across Europe.
