Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D) said he would send the National Guard to help with a crime wave in Chicago if the support is requested, according to the Daily Herald. “I think you know that I have called up the National Guard whenever local mayors that I’ve spoken to have wanted that done, have needed that done in their local communities,” Pritzker said at a news conference. “I’ll continue to make the National Guard available whenever it is necessary.”…

A University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa team won $10,000 in the student division of the recent “Reality Bytes” hackathon hosted by DOD’s National Security Innovation Network. The team developed a virtual-reality application solution to support cyber operators in denied, degraded or low-bandwidth environments, according to a press release. A team from Georgia Tech also won $10,000. They created an augmented reality system to warn operators about cyber threats by tagging devices with identifying marks, a press release said.
