The U.S. announced Thursday it will send another $675 million in arms support to Ukraine, detailed in a Pentagon press release. It is also committing $2 billion in financial aid to the region, half of which will go to Ukraine. The other $1 billion will be split among 18 nearby countries facing risk from Russia, as The Hill and other outlets reported.
Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin on Thursday led the fifth meeting of the international Ukraine Contact Group he formed earlier this year. He said the 50 countries’ senior arms directors will meet in the coming weeks to talk about how they can help in the long run.
“They will discuss how our defense industrial bases can best equip Ukraine’s future forces with the capabilities that they need,” Austin said.
