The Association of Defense Communities named three local leaders as national Defense Community Champions:

  • Jana Evans, San Antonio Area Manager, Soldiers’ Angels, Alamo–San Antonio Region
  • Elizabeth Hartman, Commander, American Legion Post 539, Eastern North Carolina
  • Mary Jane Jernigan, Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army; President, Freestate ChalleNGe Foundation; President, Maryland State AUSA, Chesapeake Science & Security Corridor

“The champions are boots on the ground, working in support of our defense communities,” said Jessica Harrison, AVP, Branch Operations for Navy Federal Credit Union, the official sponsor of the Defense Community Champions program. “Truly at the heart of the program is to uplift those individuals that are supporting our service members and their families.”

Evans, Hartman and Jernigan will be honored at a ceremony during the Defense Communities National Summit, taking place April 8-10 in Arlington, Virginia.
