ADC Podcast: Insights from RAND on Natural Hazard Vulnerabilities

June 10, 2024

A recent RAND study assesses the vulnerabilities of Army installations from natural hazard events through an analysis of insurance industry methods and historical Army installation damage from natural hazards. The latest episode of America’s Defense Communities | The Podcast takes a look at the study.

The episode includes insights from:

  • R J Briggs, Economist, RAND
  • Beth Lachman, Senior Operations Researcher, RAND
  • Andy Napoli, Assistant for Stationing and BRAC, Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army

“A lot of workers from the community work on the installation, and you want to be resilient, not just on the installation, but in the surrounding community, so that everybody can still do their mission… even if there’s some major storm event that’s going on,” Lachman, one of the report’s authors, told On Base Editor Randy Ford in the podcast interview.
