Senate Bill Would Share Enlistment Data with School Officials to Boost Recruitment

June 27, 2024

A bipartisan bill introduced in the Senate would require the Pentagon to share information with state and local school authorities about students who enlist in the military, Military.com reported.

Schools would have access to each enlistee’s education outcomes, Armed Forces Qualification Test scores and area of expertise. The bill’s authors believe the data will help educators sell military service as a career opportunity.

“Accurate, current and readily available information on career opportunities and outcomes will better enable state education systems to inform students of military career options post-high school,” Sen. Jerry Moran (R-Kansas) told Military.com. “This legislation will open doors for students to pursue their interests through well-paid, meaningful careers in the military.”

Moran is sponsoring the bill with Sens. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), Mitt Romney (R-Utah) and Jacky Rosen (D-Nevada).
