Government Wants Low Payout in Red Hill Suit

A decision is expected in the coming weeks in 17 plaintiffs’ case against the federal government following the 2021 oil spill at the Red Hill Bulk Fuel Storage Facility in Hawaii, as Stars and Stripes reported. The plaintiffs are seeking $7 million in damages. The Justice Department acknowledged in a filing last week that the plaintiffs are entitled to compensation but said some of the injuries claimed were unrelated to the contaminated drinking water.

EPA Asks Army to Test Water Near Former New York Depot

Years of tests since 2017 have determined that Seneca Lake – which is fed into by creeks originating from the former Seneca Army Depot, New York – has dangerous PFAS levels. The Environmental Protection Agency has asked the Army to begin testing around the depot to see whether it caused the increase in dangerous chemicals, according to Inside Climate News. The Army has agreed to test outside the base if they find PFAS levels on base.
