The Senate is planning votes on two competing spending plans Thursday. One would fund the FY 2018 spending bills and reopen the government; the second would also include funding President Trump wants for a border wall, along with other provisions he outlined in a Saturday address.
Neither plan is expected to get the 60 votes needed for passage.
The House, meanwhile, plans to once again pass clean versions of the fiscal year 2018 spending bills that have not been approved. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) has said Democrats will not negotiate on immigration until those are passed and the government is re-opened.
The government has been partially closed since Dec. 22, the longest federal government shutdown in U.S. history.
