Contrasting statements from the White House have led to “significant discussion and uncertainty” around the administration’s fiscal year 2020 defense budget request, according to new analysis from the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
“The FY 2020 defense budget request has already had a wild ride, and it has not even been submitted yet,” wrote Mark F. Cancian, one of five authors of the CSIS brief, which discusses what expenditures may be prioritized in the budget.
The defense budget request, scheduled for delivery to Capitol Hill mid-March, could be as high as $750 billion.
“Of course, the president proposes, but Congress disposes,” Cancian wrote. “The FY 2020 budget has to get through a highly partisan Congress.”
