Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan is expected to formally hand over Space Force controls to Air Force Secretary Heather Wilson in coming weeks, according to Defense One, which reported on a draft memo directing Wilson to establish a team to coordinate Space Force.
Wilson, some other Pentagon leaders and many on Capitol Hill had been wary of creating a separate Space Force department.
It seems more likely now that the Space Force will be housed within the Air Force, similar to how the Marine Corps operates within the Navy, as On Base has reported.
