Military-VA Subcommittee to Kick-Off Spending Bill Markups Weds.

April 28, 2019

The House Appropriations Committee will begin markups of fiscal 2020 spending bills next week including the Military Construction-VA spending bill, Roll Call reported Friday.
A separate statement released by the House Military Construction-VA Appropriations Subcommittee said it plans to mark up its draft fiscal 2020 spending bill at 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 1.
After subcommittee markups, the full appropriations committee could mark up the Military Construction-VA spending legislation May 6, though the schedule is expected to be flexible, according to the Roll Call report.
The Appropriations Committee is also expected to take up the full defense bill soon, though no date has been set.
The major appropriations bills are being written by House Appropriations Committee Chairman Nita Lowey, who has said she will adhere to the current $664 billion defense limit and $631 nondefense limit, as ADC has reported.
The full defense bill has not been brought to the floor. Earlier in April the House adopted a “deeming” resolution that establishes an overall spending topline of $1.295 trillion, a move that skirted differences between House Democrat progressives and moderates on defense and nondefense spending.
