A federal judge in Oakland, Calif., considered arguments in two cases Friday seeking to block President Donald Trump from directing DOD and Treasury funds toward construction of a southern border barrier, the Associated Press reported.
One lawsuit was filed by California and 19 other states, and a coalition of environmental and civil rights organizations filed the other.
The president directed the transfer of billions for border wall construction under his February national emergency declaration, which the suits charge was an illegal attempt to bypass congressional authority.
Another legal challenge is scheduled Thursday when a federal judge in Washington will consider a lawsuit by House Democrats to prevent DOD funds for border construction.
