The Military Arts Connection, a new program by the Cultural Office of the Pikes Peak Region, Colo., is offering military members and their families new avenues to exercise their creativity. Military spouses in nine states, including seven spouses from Fort Bragg, Ga., have been awarded scholarships through a partnership between two organizations that support military families. Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, N.C., has been working through its Environmental Restoration Program to conduct investigations and clean up a 1953-1977 former fortified beach assault training area from explosive hazards and potential contaminants. The program has been partnering with the Navy, the North Carolina Environmental Department and the EPA to conduct the cleanup, according to the Camp Lejeune Globe.
