Pence Announces Plan to Station Three New F-35 Squadrons at Tyndall AFB

Vice President Mike Pence announced on Twitter Tuesday that Tyndall Air Force Base, Fla., which suffered extensive damage last October from Hurricane Michael, will be rebuilt so it can accommodate three new squadrons of F-35 fighter jets.
“After Hurricane Michael destroyed Tyndall Air Force Base in October, I promised, on behalf of @realDonaldTrump, that our Admin would rebuild @TeamTyndall,” Pence wrote in a tweet. I’m proud to announce we can rebuild the F35s by 2023! This is how we keep America’s great @usairforce lethal & ready!”
Earlier this spring the Air Force conducted an evaluation showing Tyndall can accommodate the three F-35 squadrons, according to an Associated Press report.
Tyndall, which employs approximately 11,000 military and civilian workers, suffered catastrophic damage from the Category 5 Hurricane Micheal with costs estimated to rebuild the base is $4.7 billion, as On Base previously reported.
Prior to the storm, most of the F-22 Raptor fighter jets that were previously stationed at Tyndall before the hurricane were relocated to other bases, according to the AP report.
