Navy: Education to Become Significant Factor in Promotions

February 3, 2020

The Navy will allocate $300 million to its educational budget, and educational attainment will become a formal facet considered in officer promotion, reported the Federal News Network.
This is following the Navy’s creation of a new position, chief learning officer, which will lead and unify all Navy and Marine Corps formal education programs. Past university president and retired Marine John Kroger was appointed to the job.
“Trying to educate 40- or 50,000 students a year on a brick and mortar scale is cost prohibitive. But the revolution in online education makes that possible,” Kroger said to Federal News Network. “They’ll get the education they need, and we will maintain their operational tempo. That’s the revolution in education we’re seeing.”
