Lawmakers Ask the Pentagon to Expand Tenant Bill of Rights

A statement issued by House Armed Services Committee Chairman Adam Smith, Ranking Member Mac Thornberry (R-Texas), Subcommittee on Readiness Chairman John Garamendi, and Ranking Member Doug Lamborn urged the DOD to expand provisions in their recently released “Military Housing Privatization Initiative Tenant Bill of Rights.”

Particularly they stated three items not outlined in the original document: the right to dispute resolution, the ability to withhold rent, and access to a home’s maintenance history. “Congress didn’t suggest these protections, we mandated them,” the lawmakers wrote.
