Puritan Medical Products will double its output of the swabs needed for coronavirus testing under a new Defense Production Act contract announced this week.
The company currently makes 20 million of the swabs each month. It will now use a facility in Pittsville, Maine, to make 20 million more each month, starting in May.
“The increased production and long-term industrial capacity will help support the needs of the nation,” a DOD spokesman said in a statement.
The $75.5 million contract will also help Puritan add 150 employees.
