30,000 Military Families Granted Waivers for PCS Moves

May 6, 2020

Although the Pentagon’s stop movement to contain the spread of coronavirus is still in place, many service members are scheduled to begin Permanent Change of Station (PCS) orders, according to TRANSCOM officials on Wednesday.

About 30,000 have been granted waivers to troops to begin moving before the current restriction ends on June 30.

“The services and personnel communities are working to identify their projections for the rest of the year and the demand will be significant,” said Rick Marsh director of the Defense Personal Property Program at USTRANSCOM. “I absolutely anticipate moves going well into the fall and winter. We won’t have the notion of the typical peak season as we know it historically.”

The Department of Defense have adopted new safety protocols for moving amidst the pandemic including adhering to social distancing, wearing of protective face coverings and frequent use of sanitizers.
