Coast Guard Changes Training Practices Amidst Pandemic

July 7, 2020

Training will look different for Coast Guard cadets entering the eight-week boot camp known as “Summer Swab.”

Changes include opting out on haircuts, drilling or exercising as group, issuing of uniforms, as well as the iconic “screaming” in cadets faces, Military Times reports.

Cadets will be required to quarantine for 14 days before beginning their training in New London, Connecticut.

“People will be organized in a certain way so they don’t come into contact with each other,” said Senior Dan Taglianetti, Swab Summer company commander. “But for the most part, the intensity will still be there. It just won’t be as traditional with the proximity and masks and things.”
