Colorado Governor Signs Employment Legislation for Military Spouses

July 14, 2020

Military families with permanent change-of-station orders for Colorado will have an easier transition when it comes to relocating, particularly with reciprocity of occupational licenses.

On June 25 Colorado Governor signed the “Create Occupational Credential Portability Program Act” into law which provides military spouse a temporary occupational license up to three years at no cost to the individual.

Before the passing of the current bill, military spouses were given a one-year exemption only.

“Every time you PCS [permanent change of station], there are so many different things you’re worried about, such as where you’re going to live or where your children will go to school,” said Andrea Hernandez, Airman and Family Readiness Center flight chief to DVIDS.

Service member families can also take advantage of the Department of Defense’s Licensure Reimbursement Program, which provides up to $1,000 to military spouses to reimburse costs related to re-licensure and recertification when moving to a different state.
