DOD Releases Results of Spouse Satisfaction Survey with Military Life

December 4, 2020

The newly released Department of Defense Survey of Active Duty Spouses measured spouse satisfaction from 2017-2019.

The survey found six in ten spouses favor their husband/wife staying in the military, significantly lower than 2012–2015; statistically
unchanged since 2017. The top three areas of importance of benefits for spouses and families included: access to quality health care, secure employment for their spouse, and a good retirement plan.

“Our program and policy teams rely on insights from this important, recurring research study, which uses stratified sampling and weighting to produce results that create a reliable depiction of the experience faced by military spouses,” said Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness Matthew P. Donovan. “This supports our ability to adjust, improve, and initiate policies and programs that meet the needs of our military spouses.”
