Fort McCoy’s Economic Impact Exceeds $1.47 Billion in FY20

Wisconsin’s Fort McCoy saw an economic impact of $1.479 billion in fiscal year 2020, compared to $1.184 billion reported for FY 2019, DVIDs reports.

The installation employs a total of 2,549 personnel, composed of 1,476 civilians, 509 military, and 564 contract employees. Of this workforce, 68% live within Monroe County.

“Throughout the last decade, Fort McCoy experienced unprecedented facility modernization, training area development and expansion, increased training and customer support capability, and improved quality-of-life opportunities,” according to the Fort McCoy Executive Summary. “From unmanned aerial vehicles, to urban training facilities, to live-fire ranges and virtual-training environments, Fort McCoy is prepared to meet the training needs of the Army in the 21st century.”

Operating costs for the installation in FY20 amounted to over $194 million, and included expenditures utilities, physical plant maintenance and personnel salaries.
