Army Cyber Institute Tool Will Help Communities Fight Off Cyberattacks

April 4, 2021

The Army wants to help every municipality prepare to respond to a possible cyberattack, “regardless of their city budget,” Lt. Col. Erica Mitchell of the Army Cyber Institute told C4ISRNET last week.

Mitchell was demonstrating a new tool to understand how cyberattacks affect local infrastructure.

When it’s ready to roll out, the platform will include a writer application to develop scenarios, a planning application to create a playbook, and a tabletop exercise. It may eventually include a “live range” exercise.

DOD will encourage installation leaders to conduct the exercises with their local communities, Mitchell said, though non-military communities will also have access, “because to us, the whole of community approach being done across the nation is going to better protect our critical infrastructure than anything else.”
