First Lady Revives Joining Forces Initiative

April 7, 2021

First Lady Dr. Jill Biden is reviving and revamping the White House initiative to fight military spouse unemployment and underemployment, strengthen military children’s education and increase access to mental health services, Military.com reported.

“Just 1% of our country has shouldered the burden of 20 years of war,” Dr. Biden said Wednesday. “No one has more strength and grit and resilience than our military families, but you can’t do this alone.”

Biden and then-First Lady Michelle Obama launched the Joining Forces Initiative in 2011.

Former First Lady Melania Trump and former Second Lady Karen Pence both worked on military family and veterans issues but not under the Joining Forces umbrella.
