White House Sets May 27 Budget Release; NDAA Likely to Hit House in Sept.

May 13, 2021

The Biden administration will send Congress its detailed budget request May 27, officials confirmed to reporters Thursday. That will kick off a later-than-usual rush to pass the 12 annual appropriations bills before current spending expires Sept. 30.

House Appropriations Committee Chair Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.) said recently that she wants to complete committee action in June and hold floor votes in July.

The delayed budget has frustrated defense authorizers who are eager to work on the annual defense policy bill, which also must pass by Sept. 30. House Armed Services Committee leaders do not expect the House will consider the authorization bill on the floor until after Labor Day, they told Politico.
