HASC Lays Out Tight NDAA Timeline

June 15, 2021

The House Armed Services Committee will begin marking up the fiscal year 2022 defense authorization bill the last week of July, according to a schedule released by the committee. Four subcommittees, including military personnel, will conduct markups July 28. Three other subcommittees, including readiness, will take place the next day.

Then comes August recess, with the full committee markup beginning Sept. 1, leaving less than a month to pass final legislation before the current year’s authorization expires.

Senate Armed Services Committee Chair Jack Reed (D-R.I.) previously announced his committee will also start the bill markup in July.

The policy bill process is delayed this year because the administration’s budget request was not released until the end of May.
