June 30, 2021

Democratic appropriators in the House released a $706 billion DOD spending bill Tuesday – slightly lower than President Joe Biden’s request. Here are some of the highlights of the bill, based on a committee summary and the draft bill text:

  • 7% military pay raise
  • A requirement that defense contractors pay a $15 minimum wage
  • $75 million for the Defense Community Infrastructure Program, a $25 million increase over the administration’s request
  • Grant funding to help communities install military aviation mitigating insulation
  • $300 million for construction and repair of on-base schools
  • $15 million to study the health impact of PFAS-contaminated drinking water
  • $1 million for the Army to redesignate facilities and roads named after confederate leaders

The defense appropriations subcommittee marks the bill up Wednesday. The full committee will consider it July 13.
