COVID Showed Need to Simplify PCS Moves, General Says

September 27, 2021

The coronavirus pandemic showed why it’s time to finally outsource management of the process of moving military families’ household goods from one duty station to another, Air Force Gen. Jacqueline Van Ovost told the Senate Armed Services Committee last week.

Van Ovost is the head of Air Mobility Command and was testifying at a confirmation hearing to lead Transportation Command.

She said that efficient, smooth PCS moves are an important quality of life issue for DOD and that a planned contract to hire a private company to oversee the process will make things better.

That contract has been held up by a protest of the bidding but could be back on track next month, Military.com reported.
