New guidance from the Marines makes it clear that those who refuse to get the COVID-19 vaccine will be forced to leave the Corps without separation pay and may face other administrative consequences.
Marines separated for vaccination refusal will not be eligible for involuntary separation pay and will be subject to recoupment of any unearned special or incentive pays and advance educational assistance,” the guidance said. “Marines who do not complete their service obligation for Transfer of Education Benefits will lose their eligibility to retain transferred Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits and may be subject to recoupment if the Veterans Affairs has already processed a payment for transferred benefits.”
About 83% of Marines were fully vaccinated by Oct. 20, and 92% were partially vaccinated, according to DOD figures.
The Marine Corps said there are currently no approved religious exemptions, Military.com reported.
