Services’ Energy Chiefs Say Russia-Ukraine Conflict Underscores Need for Energy, Climate Plan

March 18, 2022

The Air Force is “on the cusp” of releasing a climate action plan, Edwin Oshiba told lawmakers this week. Oshiba is the acting assistant Air Force secretary for energy, installations and the environment. He didn’t give a specific release date, Air Force Magazine reported.

The plan will outline how to diversify energy sources and develop a “climate-literate force,” he said.

Those goals are taking on a new intensity as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine passes the three-week mark and President Biden has barred the import of Russian oil.

“You don’t need to look any further than today’s headlines to know that energy can be used as a weapon,” Meredith Berger, assistant secretary of the Navy for energy, installations and the environment, told lawmakers.
