Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Joint Chiefs Chair Gen. Mark Milley announced an additional $1 billion in security aid to Ukraine this week.
“This new assistance will support Ukraine’s most urgent needs for artillery, as well as near-term priorities for coastal defense, secure communications and optics,” a Pentagon official said, according to a DOD press release.
The package will include “Harpoon coastal defense systems, more 155mm howitzers and more ammunition for the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System, or HIMARS,” the release said.
Including the new package, the U.S. will have provided $5.6 billion in aid to Ukraine since Russia invaded almost four months ago.
