Stopgap Spending Bill on Track to Avoid Shutdown

The Senate appears likely to approve a continuing resolution Thursday to keep the government open until mid-December. That would tee up quick passage in the House Thursday or Friday, allowing President Biden to sign the measure before current government spending runs out Friday night.

Then attention turns to a post-midterm omnibus spending bill.

“I think there’s a good chance we get together on it,” the top Senate Appropriations Committee Republican, Richard Shelby (Ala.), said. “We have to.”
