McCarthy Signals a GOP Majority Would Rethink Approach to Ukraine Aid

October 19, 2022

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) said if his party regains control of the House, it will take a closer look at the Biden administration’s aid to Ukraine.

“I think people are gonna be sitting in a recession, and they’re not going to write a blank check to Ukraine. They just won’t do it,” McCarthy told Punchbowl News. “Ukraine is important, but at the same time it can’t be the only thing they do and it can’t be a blank check.”

McCarthy hopes to become Speaker if his party wins control of the House.

Support for Ukraine aid has been mostly bipartisan before and since Russia invaded, but some non-interventionist conservative Republicans are more vocally opposed to ongoing support, as The Hill noted.
