Officials at Fort Hood, Texas have started the process of removing the name “Hood” from facilities, part of a congressional mandate for that and several other bases named after Confederate leaders, the Killeen Daily Herald reported. Corvias has invested $8 million to make upgrades to housing at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, according to a press release. That includes installing energy- and water-saving devices in about 200 homes at Aberdeen. It’s part of a $325 million investment Corvias is making at about 16,000 homes across the homes it manages, including at Fort Meade, Maryland, Fort Sill, Oklahoma, Fort Riley, Kansas, Fort Bragg, North Carolina and Fort Rucker, Alabama.

The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation is investing more than $1 million to build reefs from oyster shells to protect the shoreline around Marine Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina, Marine Corps Times reported. The funding is a grant to the Coastal Conservation League, the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources and the Sustainability Institute. “Nature-based solutions like the oyster reef positively impact Lowcountry communities and can be combined with future initiatives, adding even a more holistic approach to sustainability,” Maj. Philip Kulczewski, depot spokesman, said.
