VA Program Housed 40,000 Homeless Veterans Last Year

January 26, 2023

The Department of Veterans Affairs helped more than 40,000 homeless veterans find homes in 2022, it announced in a press release. VA had a goal of finding homes for 38,000 veterans.

“There are thousands of formerly homeless veterans who are going to sleep tonight in good, safe, stable homes – and there’s nothing more important than that,” VA Secretary Denis McDonough said. “This is great progress, but it’s just the beginning: we at VA will not rest until the phrase ‘homeless veteran’ is a thing of the past.”

VA staff members worked with the 40,000 veterans to find homes they could rent or own, often with a subsidy. They also worked with some veterans to reunite them with family and friends they could stay with, according to the press release.
