Army Vice Chief George Nominated to Succeed McConville

April 25, 2023

President Biden has nominated Army Vice Chief of Staff Gen. Randy George to become the service’s next chief of staff when Gen. James McConville retires this summer.

George “is a combat-proven leader who is the right person at the right time and will guide the Army into the future,” McConville told Defense News.

He has been in his current position since August, according to his official biography.

The Senate faces a big backlog in confirming military nominees because of a hold Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) has placed on them. He is protesting the Pentagon’s policy of providing time off and travel reimbursement for service members who have to travel out of state for reproductive health care. A Tuberville spokesperson told Military.com Friday that the Senator’s position hasn’t changed.
