In the past 20 years, DOD’s Readiness and Environmental Protection Integration (REPI) Program has helped conserve more than a million acres of land at 120 locations across 35 states and U.S. territories, according to a recent report to Congress.
“The REPI program is a sustainable, cost-effective solution that allows the military services to operate despite accelerating land use conversion, declining at-risk species populations and worsening climate conditions,” the report says. “Through the REPI program, installations develop new community relationships, enter into long-lasting partnerships, and create resilient solutions to alleviate pressures on operational activities.”
Since fiscal year 2003, almost half of all REPI project expenditures have come from partners, such as local, state and non-governmental sources. REPI recently released a guide to help installations and communities identify a wide range of resilience project funding sources, as On Base reported.
