House Abruptly Postpones NDAA Markup as Debt Crisis Takes Over D.C.

May 10, 2023

The House Armed Services Committee has postponed all its upcoming hearings on the fiscal year 2024 National Defense Authorization Act while Congress and the White House continue a showdown over raising the debt limit in the coming weeks.

“Providing for our nation’s defense is the most important responsibility that Congress has been tasked with under the U.S. Constitution,” HASC Chair Mike Rogers (R-Ala.) said in a brief press release Tuesday night. “I look forward to beginning the FY24 NDAA process in the near future to fulfill this critical responsibility and strengthen our national security.”

Several subcommittees were set to meet Thursday and Friday, with the full committee doing its markup May 23. No new dates have been announced.

The Senate already postponed its markup, as On Base reported yesterday.
