New Dates Set for Senate NDAA Action; Defense Approps on Hold in House

May 12, 2023

The Senate Armed Services Committee will mark up the fiscal year 2024 National Defense Authorization Act June 20 and 21, CQ reported, citing a Senate aide. The subcommittees and full committee plan to complete their work on the bill over those two days, after having pushed back the original dates.

“We’ve been working very diligently,” said Armed Services Committee Chair Jack Reed (D-R.I.). “We’ve got a lot of it written, but we have to get a topline.”

House Republicans also postponed their scheduled NDAA markups, but no new dates have been announced. The House Defense Appropriations Subcommittee announced Thursday it will not take up the defense appropriations bill next week as scheduled.

The delays are because ongoing debt ceiling and budget talks will affect how much money may be allocated to defense spending.
