Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) has introduced a bill that would establish a Defense Military Housing Readiness Council to make recommendations to DOD on privatized housing and monitor compliance of the Tenant Bill of Rights, as Military Times reported.

“It is unacceptable for any of our service members and their families to live in unsafe military housing with black mold, collapsed roofs or exposed electrical wires because DOD is failing in its oversight responsibilities,” said Warren, who chairs the Senate Armed Services Committee’s personnel subcommittee.

The council would be made up of representatives of the military services, members, spouses, and military family advocacy organization representatives.

Warren’s bill is co-sponsored by Sens. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) and Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii). Reps. Sara Jacobs (D-Calif.) and Stephanie Bice (R-Okla.) are expected to file a companion bill in the House.
